‘Telangana Model Is Ideal’: Rahul Gandhi Backs Caste Census, Seeks Clarity From Govt

New Delhi: Congress has supported the government's decision of caste census, but at the same time also asked the government to tell its timeline and also how it will be done? Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi told the government in a press conference that the party had said in Parliament that we will get it done. In such a situation, after a long delay, that is, suddenly after 11 years, the government suddenly accepted our point and announced it, which we support. Gandhi said that this is the first step and the country needs to go beyond this and see it as a paradigm of development. There is a need to see and understand how much participation the Dalits, backward and OBC community have in power?

'Two models for caste census'

Rahul Gandhi stressed that the country has two models for caste census. One is the Bihar model and the other is the Telangana model, and of these two models, the Telangana model is ideal, which has been prepared under a detailed consultation process. He said that the census method in Telangana was not created by bureaucrats. The entire process was completed by going among the public. He said that through this, it will help significantly in understanding social and economic inequalities and making policies, which is very important for the paradigm of development.

Demand to remove 50% limit on reservation

Rahul Gandhi further said that in such a situation, we would like that the caste census at the national level adopts some methods and ideas of the Telangana model, he said that the Congress government is ready to help the Modi government in developing the methods of this census. Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi also mentioned the need to remove the 50 percent cap in reservation. He said that due to this, there is a hindrance in the development of people belonging to backward castes, tribals and Dalits. Rahul further said that we will put pressure on the government to implement the already existing law regarding reservation in private educational institutions under Article 15 (5) of the Constitution.

In response to a question, Gandhi said that he does not think that the government has taken this decision in view of the assembly elections to be held in Bihar. In response to a question, he also said that there is a fear that its fate may be like the women's reservation law. But it is hoped that the government will take a better decision on this.

'Those who perpetrate terrorism will have to pay the price'

Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi agreed with the government's decisions in Pahalgam and said that the entire opposition is with the government on this issue. Rahul Gandhi said that those who perpetrate terrorism will have to pay the price. Terrorism is not acceptable at all. They should remember that they cannot do this to India. PM Modi will have to take action. There is no scope for any delay and dilemma in this. Gandhi said that we are with the government and will remain so. Rahul said that 28 people have lost their lives and everyone knows who is behind this. PM Modi should take action. Rahul, who returned to Delhi after meeting the family of Shubham Dwivedi in Kanpur, UP during the day, said that the families of the tourists who lost their lives in the attack demand that the government give martyr status to the deceased.
